Celebrating my 40th birthday by performing 40 Acts of Kindness

on July 6, 2012

Well, I am officially the big  4-0 and very excited about it!  Usually, on past birthdays, I have taken the day to do something totally for myself.  Yet, by the end of the day, I felt somewhat empty and unfulfilled.  So this year I am taking a different approach, I plan to perform 40 Acts of Kindness (some random and some not.)  The birthday inspiration came for blog:  www.ticklestogiggles.blogspot.com  and the idea Random Acts of Christian Kindness cards (“You’ve been RACK’ed) came from www.tsjphotography.com December 2010

Results of 40 Acts of Kindness:  This was an absolutely, amazing and fulfilling birthday.  These acts of kindness are not to bring attention to myself.  (Because, believe me, I received far more a blessing than any of the recipients.)  But just, maybe to give you inspiration to do the same.

1,2.  Prepared Cinnamon French Toast Bake (CFTB)(Recipe found at www.ohmysugarhigh.com) and delivered early this morning to a young busy family. (Fortunately, my text woke the mom up who would have overslept and been late for work where they were short staffed.  Also, the mom told me when I delivered the CFTB that her teenage daughter would be thrilled that she would not have to cook breakfast.)

3-7.  Mailed quick notes of encouragement to 5 friends.

8.  Mailed expired coupons to military. www.ocpnet.org

9-10.  Handed out “You Deserve Chocolate” (YDC) bars to very helpful and friendly postal workers.

11-13.  Handed out YDC bars to bank employees.

14-16.  Delivered a YDC Container (filled with assorted chocolate Little Debbie cakes) to Tax Collector Office Employees. Scroll down to see pictures.

17-18.  Delivered YDC bars to Main Street Volunteers.

19-23.  Handed out YDC bars to random people at a local shop.

24.  Delivered YDC Container to Nurses Station at local hospital.

25.  The lady was so friendly when I entered the hospital, I went back to my car for a YDC bar to give to her.

26-27.  Left two packages of coloring books and crayons in hospital ER waiting room.

28-30. Delivered YDC Containers to 3 Nursing Home, Nurses stations.

31.  Delivered Sweet Iced Tea (her favorite) to the office of someone who was having a difficult day.

32-33.  Made (the night before) and delivered casseroles to 2 working mom’s for their families’ dinner.

34-36.  Delivered baby gifts to pregnancy center.

37.  Delivered fresh vegetables (from my garden) to someone who always cooks for her neighbors.

38.  Gave gifts to my neices and nephews.  They were confused about why they were receiving gifts from me on my birthday. :)

39-40. Dropped off personal care products to ICU waiting room.

This has been a very long, but extremely BLESSED birthday!  I had SO MUCH FUN!

So after two days of signs ; that I needed to do 48 good deeds beofre my 48th birthday, I was on a mission to fufill this wish that the universe had laid beofre me.I was sort of frantic. It was already the 5th of March and my birthday was in 26 days. Meaning that I had 26 days to do 48 good deeds that I normally would not do.I made a list of all the helpful things I would do. I started by collecting books to take to the jail for their library. Then a tornado hit a town next to mine. My husband asked me to help clean brush/treeswith him. I spent 2 1/2 hours carrying brush to the side of the road.Later the next week, I ran into McDonalds for a quick bite to eat. While standing in line, there was an elderly woman counting her change to pay for her bill. She asked the clerk if she had given her enough. She had. She took her sandwich and coffee and sat down. When it was my turn at the counter I ordered my lunch. I also ordered 2 cookies; I put some money in the cookie bag. I gave it to an employee in the dining room and asked her to give it to the woman and let her know that someone wanted to buy her lunch.Originally my plan was to do 48 good deeds in 26 days. But since this is my own personal birthday givings and since I believe in signs , I am going to plan on giving myself the whole year. I am going to look for signs of things or people, or places that need extra care or attention.Wouldn’t it be great if for our birthdays we all gave instead of getting. I can think of no better feeling than doing your share in the universe to help. Whether big or small..it all adds up. It all makes a difference.

Simply awesome! You are certainly an inspiration! I’m still teary eyed with chills running down my arms. I also, believe in signs. Several times in my life I believe certain situations or people have been placed in my path. Some of those brief incidents (to my regret) I did not act upon. With those regrets running through my mind, has prepared me to act quickly and with confidence when faced with opportunities to be a blessing. Thanks for your comments. I look forward to “hearing” more of your adventures as you make a difference.
